We are going to pick up where we left off last week in Joshua.
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips;meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
What does it mean, the “Book of the Law”? Joshua was written about the early in Israel’s history, so it wasn’t like they had the whole Bible to look over. They just had the first five books: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
However, what in the world, why should we keep in on our lips and meditate on it day and night?
Ohhh lets think ahead a bit into the New Testament. If we look into Matthew 4.
This is the part of the story for those of you who don’t know, where Jesus was tempted by Satan three times. However, rather than falling into the temptation of Satan every time, he quoted the Word of God, with the Holy Spirit empowering Him, through Scripture, to overcome the temptation given from Satan. His can be very difficult to withstand at times, but this is why it says keep it ALWAYS on your lips.
I am going to challenge you this week to keep a verse on your mind, and on your lips. When you feel challenged, you can use this verse.
Some I recommend because I know everyone worries from day to day, here are some verses to keep on your heart, rather than worrying. My post next week will be on worrying, but here is the pre-challenge. When you begin to worry think of 1st Peter 5:7
“Cast all your anxiety on Him because he cares for you.”
That is your challenge when you feel worrying coming on look to the Lord.
The next part of this verse just explains that listening and following the rules will lead to being successful and flourishment.
Next verse!! Verse 9
“ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
WOW! Look at that, what does it say for the third time???
BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS!!!
However, this time there is more than just being BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS!!
God is telling us not to be afraid, because He is with you wherever you go.
I have this verse right of my door, so everyday when I walk out of my room, I see this, and remember God is with me, so there is no need to fear, and I need TO BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS!!
This is so important to me, because I live life as if everywhere I go is my mission field, and I am try to love everyone the way God loves them.
This could be challenge two! BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS WHEREVER YOU GO! AND DON’T BE AFRAID BECAUSE GOD IS WITH YOU!
You know what there is going to be two challenges, I will reset them at the bottom but I have two challenges for you guys now!
But like stated earlier, Joshua has a HUGE role to take on, so he surely needed this encouragement. And I believe we all probably need it from day to day! I know I do!
Last two verses of the series! 10 and 11!!
“So Joshua ordered the officers of the people: “Go through the camp and tell the people, ‘Get your provisions ready. Three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you for your own.’”
The only thing I am going to point out, that it states “three days from now you will cross the Jordan here to go in and take possession of the land the Lord your God is giving you for your own.”
THREE DAYS! Oh my, that is insane. Joshua has a ton of faith in God, and the Israelites are learning to have faith in Joshua and God, as Joshua just became the new leader.
Crazy right!! But, listen, finally, after five chapters in the Bible, they are finally meant to take the land they were promised by God. Isn’t that just crazy!!
Later, in Joshua in chapter 21, we see this fulfilled, as it says,”So the Lord gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there” Verse 43.
So finally the Israelites were given the land promised way back in Genesis.
Thanks for reading guys! Remember your two challenges this week!! They are both a transition into next weeks post on WORRYING!
Here are the challenges again though,
- Rather than worrying remember the verse that says, “CAST ALL YOUR ANXIETIES ON HIM BECAUSE HE CARES FOR YOU” 1 Peter 5:7
Do not be afraid from day to day!! BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS WHEREVER YOU GO!! Because GOD is with you!! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!
