Who We Really Are

Hello loves! It’s Alyssa & I am so glad you are checking this out today! I am so excited about this post- it is about who we identify as in Christ! It is such an amazing thing to take a step back and humble ourselves in our identity! Obviously we are many things through and because of Christ, and these are just a few of our identities!

At the retreat I was recently at, the focus for the weekend was in Colossians 3. Dave Pacheco was our speaker for the weekend and he did an amazing job! Alright, lets get into this!

Here’s an overview of my post today, and then we will dig right in!

Because of Jesus, we (as believers) are:

  • Dead
  • Raised
  • Alive
  • Hidden
  • Glorified

I’m going to be skipping all around the first few verses of Colossians 3, so get ready! Colossians 3:3 says that we have died. We are dead to sin but the story does not stop there, we are alive in Christ! (Check out Romans 6!) We died in hopes that we might live new life because of Jesus.

Colossians 3:1 says that “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”

We have died with Christ, but we have the opportunity to live with Him face to face one day! We shouldn’t live in the tomb- Jesus didn’t! (hallelujah!!) We have been raised for a purpose. God loved us so much that he sent His one and only Son to die for us so that we may live life eternal. (John 3:16) That’s not something to just sit around about!! We are made to go and make disciples of all nations. (Matthew 28:19) Living our lives to serve is something we as Christians are called to do, and we should live with this power in mind. The power of the possibility of being dead to sin, but because of Jesus we do not have to fear that! And once our temporary lives here on Earth have passed, we have eternity with Jesus waiting for us! We will spend the rest of forever with JESUS!! HOW AMAZING IS THAT MY FRIENDS! The power of Christ has raised us!

We are also not only raised in Christ, but we are living in Him. “When Christ, who is your life, appears, you will also appear.” Colossians 3:4

God gives us life. We are living as new people as followers of Christ, and this new life is only given through the sacrifice of Jesus. Jesus gives this thing called common grace to everyone. This means believer or not, Jesus LOVES you and CARES for you!! He loves you no matter what, and I think that is the coolest thing! But even though Jesus gives us life, there are still people walking around and breathing, but they are dead. We have to accept this gift that Jesus gives us to have this new life and become truly alive.

Colossians 3:3 says that “… your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” We are dependent of Christ for our life. Day in and out, we need Jesus to fight our battles and be our hope. It is so important to praise Jesus for who He is and what he has done for us. A way to praise is worship- and when we sing, we speak truth into our lives. “My one defense, my righteousness. Oh God, how I need You.” (Lord I need you- Matt Maher)

Lastly, we are glorified in Christ. Colossians 3:4 says “you will also appear with Him in glory”. We have a security and certainty of living with Jesus for eternity! How you live your life depends on where you sit. For example- if you sit in a life of guilt and shame, our lives will be less of Jesus and more of us. But, if we are a good and faithful servant of Jesus, we will live a life full of grace, truth, and pure joy- no matter what the circumstance.

In honesty- what is there to fear? Jesus won the ultimate battle, and because that we can live with confidence in what the days ahead with no fear. Whatever the doctor may say, family circumstance, or financial situation, at the end of the day, Jesus is Lord and is in all control. (Romans 8:28)

Wrapping things up, I hope you guys all became more firm and planted in your identity in Jesus. I am actually going to be doing a series on Colossians 3, and next week I will be digging into verses 5-11! I am so excited to continue to share my heart with you guys, you won’t want to miss this! Make sure to tune in Thursday for Raegan’s post- y’all will love it!

Praying you all have an amazing week- we love you guys!

  1. Having read this I believed it was rather informative. I appreciate you taking the time and effort
to put this information together. I once again find myself spending a significant amount of time both reading and commenting.
But so what, it was still worth it!
