Oh Look!! A Shoe Sale!

Welcome back!! As I said last week I am going to talk about contentment. Please don’t be scared by the word, I know thats a HUGE word for Raegan to use, but it is a pretty easy concept. 🙂

Just like I said last week, Mimi did a great job showing us what contentment was. Although Mimi was living on the streets of LA, she was content with what little she had.

    So you might be wondering what the word content means, well let us dive into the Word and see what the Bible says about contentment.

1 Timothy Chapter 6:6-10

           6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

    I love these verses, it does a great job explaining about how we should use our behaviors and money, and how it should be used.

It should be used generously for God’s Glory!

While wealth and material objects are not themselves evil,  they can temp us, and lead us to all types of sins. Once you fall into the tempation of loving money, it opens a lot more doors of temptation to fall into.

    Normally when I read a chunk out of the bible I tend to ask myself three questions.

  1. What can I see in these verses?

  2. What do these verses mean?

  3. How can I apply this in everyday Raegan life.

So we are going to go through these verses and I’m going to explain what I first think when I read the passage and read my questions along with it.

       

  1. In these verses we can see that God wants us to be content with all that we have, and not want what others have. I know that’s hard to be content with everything-trust me. I am going to share some stories in a little bit.

  2. These verses mean business. Very quickly it is telling us we should pursue Godliness and not money or objects! I know this a struggle, because all the time we put our life into what we own. Possessions that we have won’t come up into heaven with us. When I was younger this broke my heart because I had this stuff animal I used to sleep with every night, and I would cry because I didn’t want to leave him on earth when I died.However having a relationship with God pays off and comes up to heaven with you. So while on earth, don’t collect items: collect, wisdom of God’s word!!!

3. Towards the end of this post we are also going to talk about how we can apply this to ourselves.

But guys what really is Godliness? I asked around to see what people thought and my favorite definition I heard was this.. “Behaviors congruent with the character of God.  Luckily we were given Jesus to set an example for us when he walked the earth.”

I love this because we were given such a great example of how to live in congruence to God. JESUS

Now we are going to dig even deeper in these verses. Just so you guys all know I used the same example in some because it was fitting for multiple

Verse 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain

       

Paul (the author of this)  is teaching us the Christian view of money, He  gave us a clear instructions how. He wanted to teach us about our outlook on material possessions and commitment.

Verse 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.

        From day to  day how much do you think Material possessions play  in your life? Trust me we all can relate to this. Possessions can create more of a problem. Ones life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.

Guess what possession in my life has caused many problems and has taken a ton of time away from God?

My phone. Although I have cut down on the time I spend on it. But before this summer I wouldn’t put it down. I was always on Snapchat. For those of you understand snap scores mine jumped 500,000 in a short amount of time. It is now 760,363. It took away times and just negatively affected me.. However, since this summer my snapping amount has plumped and I only snap chat three people a day max.

    What about you guys, what do you think takes away the most time from God day to day?

Verse 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.

        JEALOUSY IS HUGE!! Trust me we all struggle with it.

STORY TIME I have two!!

        When I was younger I had a friend and she got almost everything she wanted. So the day the new Justin Bieber CD came out she got it and told me all about it, and it was around my birthday so I begged and begged because I was so JEALOUS! Finally one day before my birthday my mom gave it to me a day early.

Another time when I was JEALOUS when this “popular” girl got these cool fingerless gloves kind of like biker gloves I wanted them so bad and I was insanely JEALOUS. They were ugly. I sadly still have them, and know exactly where they are. But, I only wanted them because everyone else had them.

When you are  jealous, all you think about is that thing you want. It’s a WASTE of time when you could be encouraging others, or  doing a kind act for someone. When you obsess over the things you want, it’s a waste of time and energy.

        But guys, technically, we are never really rich until we are rich in spirit

BUT WHAT IN THE WORLD DOES THAT MEAN “RICH IN THE SPIRT”?!?!?

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance -patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. Galatians 5:22-26

          Think of examples of Love, Joy, Peace, Forbearance/ Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control.           

And I challenge whoever is reading this post to try and live out two of the fruits of the spirits above this week, and let me know how it goes.

HONEST MOMENT

How do I(Raegan) struggle with jealousy nowadays?

I struggle with jealousy not with objects with activities, like vacations people go on and when some people make a team and I think they don’t deserve to be on the team and they get to start and I don’t or we both do.

9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

   

10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

 Being rich isn’t a sin, but Paul is telling us that it’s a problem, when we put our faith, hope, and security in money.

Once people pursue riches, it normally leads to downfall, such as gamblers, and certain sport players that won’t be named.

If money is the root of all-evil, it must be that those without money are better off than those with a lot. Right? Maybe. But the verse says the love of money.” Money itself isn’t bad, but loving money can lead to making bad choices. A person who is poor and loves money may rob a store, or sell drugs, but refuse to buy medicines for a sick child. A person who is rich and loves money may be stingy and cheat others in business. It doesn’t make ANY difference if you’re poor, rich, young, or old. If you start loving money, you’ll start making bad choices in life. Instead, use money, and use it wisely, but keep your love for God at the top of your priorities.

Do you (the reader), serve God or money?

We cannot serve both God and money it is impossible, it LOOK AT WHAT THIS VERSE SAYS  No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24

“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.  I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” -Philippians 4:11-13

A SECRET?!?!? What! What is it??

I think the secret is to rely on God since he will provide for you.

Look at this verse.

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

So how are we to conduct (behave/act) ourselves?

     Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”  HEBREW 13:5     How can we apply everything stated above to ourselves from day to day in 2019?         Instead of wanting something or being jealous of other people, I should pursue living life right. Pursing living life the right way is valuing the things God values, God values relationship over stuff. One of my favorite notes I have in my notebook, is “God wants a relationship from you. Not a religion from you” -Dan Miller

I loved how you talked about practical steps in 2019 for our own lives💚 I am accepting the challenge and am going to focus on joy and forbearance this week ( also, I had to look up what forbearance means😂). Which fruit of the spirit did you pick to work on this week? I love your blog! Keep up the good work👍🏻
